With the overlap between PC and car enthusiasts here, I'm sure there must be some motorsports fans around here too...

So have at it! F1, Indycar, MotoGP, WEC, Formula E, Super GT, anything goes, I'm interested.

For reference, I'm a big fan/follower of F1, WEC, and IMSA. I'm catching up on all of the seasons of Formula E (just watching full race replays), and hopefully I'll be up-to-date on it by the time season 6 kicks off in November. I'm also planning on attending Petit Le Mans again for the second time. I loosely follow Indycar, and very loosely follow MotoGP, but I'd love to get into those more. Just so much racing to watch.

In regards to spoilers, please put any information about race results or anything that happened during a race in a spoiler until a week after the event occurs. I know it's really hard to avoid race spoilers on the internet nowadays, but we may as well do what we can since it doesn't take much effort.

What's the rules on spoilers? Put things in spoiler tags until at least 1 week after the race? I almost never watch races live, I always watch them a day or two later.

That's something that somehow never crossed my mind, but I like that idea, spoiler tags for the first week or maybe 10 days if necessary. We can play it by ear at first.

What have you been watching?

Just F1 and the "special" WEC races really. With most WEC/IMSA races, I prefer to take part in them digitally on iRacing. Since April my internet has been terrible, just dropping out at random points during the day with no warning and because of the way the iRacing system works, you get penalized for it when you do lose connection so I haven't really been racing in there since May. I've lost a lot of iRating because of my garbage internet connection. It does seem to be fix now though.

I've been considering iRacing more and more as time goes on, but historically I've just done mostly AC/ACC, though I haven't done much recently. I'll need to gauge how much time I'll have in the near future and more importantly figure out where/how to set up my wheel first.

The iRacing special events are cool though, I know the guy who got second in the top split of the Indy 500 this year. They're great even to just spectate.

Big news in F1 today in addition to the 2020 calendar.

Bottas to stay at Merc for another season: https://www.racefans.net/2019/08/29/mercedes-confirm-fourth-season-for-bottas-in-2020/

Which means Ocon to Renault, replacing Hulkenberg next year: https://www.renaultsport.com/esteban-ocon-joins-renault-f1-team.html

Which means it seems likely that Hulk will go to HAAS to replace Grosjean. When in reality, not all that much will probably happen, the media will have a great time with Hulk and KMag as teammates.

Apparently it just ripped off as he was going down the Kemmel Straight, I may have missed some details. I suppose it wasn't properly secured or something like that. Semi-related, Perez has been confirmed for a 3 year contract with RP I believe, so that's another door closed for Hulk.

F1 Qualifying:

Nice, a Ferrari 1-2. Lets see how their strategists can mess this up which will result in a Mercedes 1-2 finish during the race. Also 2 red flags in Q1, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Some awful news in F2. There was a really bad crash at the exit of Raidillon that resulted in the death of Anthoine Hubert. The other two drivers involved are in a stable condition. Here's the statment from the FIA

Statement: Incident during FIA Formula 2 Feature Race, Spa Francorchamps

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) regrets to advise that a serious incident involving cars #12, #19 and #20 occurred at 17:07 on 31/08/19 as a part of the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, round 17 of the season.

The scene was immediately attended by emergency and medical crews, and all drivers were taken to the medical centre.

As a result of the incident, the FIA regrets to inform that the driver of car #19, Anthoine Hubert (FRA), succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at 18:35.

The driver of car #12, Juan-Manuel Correa (USA), is in a stable condition and is being treated at the CHU Liège hospital. More information on his condition will be provided when it becomes available.

The driver of car #20 Giuliano Alesi (FRA) was checked and declared fit at the medical centre.

The FIA is providing support to the event organisers and the relevant authorities, and has commenced an investigation into the incident.

Hubert was definitely a promising driver, 2 wins with 16 starts. That sounds pretty bad, but it's a 12.5% win rate. For reference, Michael Schumacher has a win rate of about 29.7%.

Last year's GP3 champion as well, so he was an F2 rookie this year. Lots and lots of potential, and he was just 22. That has me all messed up, can't stop thinking about it.

I think I'm still looking forward to the F1 race tomorrow, has the potential to be quite interesting.

My thoughts on the Belgian GP:

Verstappen's signature move, the lap 1 La Source divebomb, ended as it usually does, with contact and some significant damage. For once this looks like an outlier for him since he seems to have mellowed out a lot recently. I'm also surprised he just tried to keep going since his steering wasn't responding much at all, so that ended in a heavy crash that could have been avoided pretty easily.

The last two laps were a bit of an overload for me.

Gio crashing heavily from the points; was going to be one of his best, if not his best, race this season. Pretty unfortunate.

Lando's car pulling a 2016 Toyota style "finish," super super bummed about that because he was having a fantastic race in P5.

Albon making that pass on Perez for what had just become P5. I, along with many others I'm sure, was closely watching his progress all race and it was really impressive. First weekend in a top 3 car, and he was making nice and aggressive, yet calculated, moves. I'm excited for the rest of his season. We'll see how he mixes with the Mercs and Ferraris in Monza since I think Max is set to take some engine penalties.

And of course, Leclerc winning his first F1 race and Ferrari taking their first victory of the season. Really happy for Charles; a great weekend for him as far as his performance is concerned.

Great race from Kvyat as well, all the way from the back and up into the points, finishing ahead of Gasly.

Not the most exciting race of the season overall, but that's an extremely high bar. It was definitely worth watching; I'll say that much.

Somewhat OT, but I am already working on the SPOILER BBCODE again so that it does no wrap everyline with the dotted lines, I know it is somewhat ugly, so I am working on a solution for that one :)
