Hello all,

It is without a doubt that the Folding@Home project is hugely important. They have now been crunching data for the last 20 years with a view to creating treatments for some of the hideous diseases that afflict mankind. More so recently with the Covid-19 outbreak they helped to pioneer research into finding a suitable vaccine, the efforts from both the Folding@Home team and contributors alike has been nothing but amazing. Unsure what Folding@Home is or how to get started ? Check our Quick Guide

We at ExtremeHW wanted to celebrate the 20th year of Folding@Home with a competition with a chance to pick up some really rather nice prizing. For this competition we have been fortunate to work with some of our favorite companies that have been generous enough to sponsor this event with some goodies up for grabs. So before we go any further we want to thank the below companies for their sponsorship.

Ayyy, I forgot about folding. I'm having a go at folding on my CPU this time so I can see what sort of PPD I can get from it. I got 26,000 PPD from my R5 1600. I am also folding with my GPU as well because that's the most efficient.

As it turns out, there's not much of a difference as far as PPD goes between my 1600 and 5800.

I am in as well.

I'm am trying to figure out how to get more work units done lol... last time I had more points than a member who had nearly double the work units I had... so I am testing out dividing my cpu slot into two slots of 11 threads each, seems to be working so far, time will tell... maybe the same idea could work for the 5800x in getting more points since multi threading is better on the 2nd and 3rd gen zen.

on another note, and more on topic, I am sharing this thread with a few family members, including my son who has a similar setup to me... he says he will join in... would really like to see this site grow, since it's better than the alternative... wonder if anyone over there has noticed I've been gone yet lol.

well... I don't know if my son has joined up yet, but I was able to convince my wife to use her PC for FAH... but she wanted me to do it in my name, is there any rules against that in the competition... I don't think so, but thought I'd ask to be sure.... poor PC, it only has a 3200g, but it chugs along cool and quietly getting it's 66k ppd 🤔 seems low

No, FaT's are all about every last piece of tech we can get our grubby hands on to fold. The MOAR, the merrier.

Like Avacado said, it's no problem. Ask your neighbors, friends and family, install F@H on the display computers at your local hardware store, whatever you can to produce more than @Avacado!

Pfft, i'm not the threat anymore. You guys with multiple 3090's are. The M40s and K80's did not pan out. Biggest issue was 16x extenders and Heat. They thermal throttled so hard! You better pray I don't find any 3 series cards for MSRP.
